I believe there need to be mental health tests before one becomes a sitting member of Congress. Actually, I believe no matter what position you hold — whether in the House, the Senate or the Presidency there should be mental health tests. And intelligence tests.

Think about it. We have a frighteningly high number of stupid people in Government. Would it not be lovely — so very lovely — if we knew that everybody holding such important positions were, in fact, sane? And intelligent.

Not that smart people sometimes do not make mistakes. That can and does happen all the time. But what about when it happens ALL the time? What then? Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia seems to find herself in the predicament of saying stupid things pretty regularly.

But — shouldn’t she know something about our country? Shouldn’t anyone who runs for office know our history? According to Greene, she received a message from a very sweet lady from Puerto Rico. How lovely! In her voice mail, the woman voiced concern for the country and some of its problems.

Greene was delighted to wax poetic about the lovely woman and Puerto Rico in general. “I’m sure she’s upset about how just the total decline in our culture, not only in America but Puerto Rico and in many places around the world.” She didn’t — she didn’t — she did!

For a sitting Congresswoman not to know that Puerto Rico is part of America is just frightening. It’s a bit too frightening even to be funny. (OK — It’s a little bit funny.)

Did Greene ever take a history class? Is she “acting” just to get her name in print? Or is she just that stupid? I am going with door number three. It is quite logical to take the Georgian at her word. If she says she thinks Puerto Rico is not part of our country, it is logical to assume she truly believes that.

Does she, I wonder, even know we have territories? Does she know how many states we have? Does she know that Virginia and West Virginia are two different states (I ask that one because many a Maga has made that mistake.)

We need to have a mandatory history class for any member of Congress who says something like this. We need our representatives to know SOMETHING about the country they’re representing. Let’s give Greene a history lesson. How about it, Congress?
